For leaders to have impact, to do what matters, they must develop their attitude, authority, and ability.
The right attitude is all about mindset; the belief that the future will be even better and brighter for the organisation and sector you serve. Mindset is everything in a time of uncertainty, and confidence is key.
With the right skills (ability) and mindset, we have leaders who have the confidence to initiate. They don’t stand by and wait for permission to identify and solve problems.
Where attitude and authority meet we find influence. This is quite different to the positional power we wield. Managers look down, leaders look out. Great influencers lead out by engaging and inspiring and bringing people with them on the journey of change.
At the intersection of authority and ability is improvement. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, we need improvers! We want leaders who can look at the way our organisations work and drive new and more efficient approaches.
We all want to feel purposeful; purpose is our frame for satisfying work.
Work is more than a wage, and should be much more than a survival game.
